NEWS FROM CHARLES PARIS AT HEATHER & MARCH

The new workshop of Charles which has recently been relocated to the Manufacture des Allumettes d’Aubervilliers. This workshop originally built in 1904, was last occupied by the Chanel group. This know-how oasis is a superb example showing the charm of industrial heritage with its brick walls, cast iron decorative elements and iron frame.

CHARLES PARIS X MÉTAPHORES

Our signature floor lamp, 'Sculpture Femme', is a perfect example of blending exquisite bronze sculpturing with fabric to create a signature piece for your interior. Evoking a woman styled with a hat. The look of the lamp’s slender silhouette completely changes with different shades. The latest lampshade addition, made from thé magnificent Le Crin woven horsehair by Métaphores, one of the exclusive partners of Charles.

CHARLE PARIS IN THE #1 US HOTEL

The Angela chandelier and Nénuphar couple table lamp has been chosen by the Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii to illuminate and decorate certain suites, and the Oiseau Piégé to embellish the spa entrance. This hotel was just declared #1 in the ranking of the best hotels in the USA (source U.S. News & World Report).

LET’S TALK ABOUT CHARLES- STUDIOPARISIEN

Lauréne B. Tardrew and Romain Jourdan met in the early 2010s. Their synergy was so immediately obvious that they started their design studio & agency together in 2013. Their very first clients, luxury brands like Cartier, allowed them to explore the path of artisanal excellence, which has since become this prominent duo’s area of expertise.

• Why Charles ?
  We met Charles in the context of a project for the jewelle Boghossian. They had ordered a precious light sculpture from us, inspired by one of their favourite painters. When we then wanted to create a wall sconce version, Charles - “interior jewellery, since 1908” - was an obvious choice for the project. Both sides thus started their collaboration continuously producing many bespoke pieces.
   
• For you, what makes the magic of Charles?
  The catalogue that seems to never end, so full of surprises! Also, the way that the maison feels free to produce creations that are inspired from existing designs, without betraying them. And lastly, the human aspect, which makes this legendary maison so full of life!

GOLD LEAG GILDING
 

Certain designs are too big to be gilded by being dipped into an electroltuc bath and polished mechanically. In these cases, we opt for the refuned, traditional, decorative technique of gold leaf gilding. This is what we do for the slender Phalène floow lamp. After applying the base mixture, fifty or sixty leaves are delicately applied using a “palette”, a wide sable-hair brush. The ultrafine material is then stamped on using a large round brush, polished and finally varnished to protect the gilding. That’s some nice, old-fashioned craftsmanship!
